Timothy H. Murphy is group executive, Core Products for MasterCard Worldwide. Mr. Murphy leads the management, development and commercialization of payment solutions that create a sustainable competitive advantage for MasterCard and its customers. The Core Products group is responsible for Consumer Credit, Commercial, Debit, Prepaid, Integrated Processing Solutions and PayPass products globally.
Prior to assuming this new role, Mr. Murphy was president, U.S. Region, where he was responsible for all aspects of building MasterCard business in the United States. The U.S. Region is the largest region at MasterCard, generating approximately half of the company's gross dollar volume.
Mr. Murphy has also served as group executive of Customer Business Planning and Analysis where he was responsible for business planning, financial analysis and reporting, business agreement risk review, global pricing strategy, sales development and communications, and technology investment management and control.
Previously, Mr. Murphy was senior vice president and associate general counsel for MasterCard. In this role, he was responsible for the legal support of the Asia/Pacific, Latin America/Caribbean, and SAMEA regions and for the legal affairs of Audit, Global Finance, Global Key Accounts and Worldwide Marketing. In addition, he managed the MasterCard legal compliance with the Securities and Exchange Commission regulations and for corporate governance. Earlier, Mr. Murphy was vice president and senior counsel of MasterCard.
Before joining MasterCard in 2000, Mr. Murphy was an Associate in the New York and London offices of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton, an international law firm, where he represented clients in connection with securities and capital markets transactions.
Mr. Murphy is a member of the Bar in New York and Connecticut. Prior to law school, he held positions with Common Ground Community HDFC, Inc., a non-profit housing developer in New York City, and The Chase Manhattan Bank. Mr. Murphy graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School and magna cum laude from Amherst College. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Amherst.
